Welcome to the Gateway FrogWatch Chapter website! Founded in 2011, we are the dedicated regional chapter of FrogWatch USA, a nationwide citizen science program committed to monitoring and conserving frog and toad populations. Our volunteer-based program focuses on identifying, understanding, and protecting the diverse frog and toad species within the St. Louis region, with a particular emphasis on iconic species such as the Spring Peeper, Boreal Chorus Frog, and Blanchard’s Cricket Frog.
At Gateway FrogWatch, we believe in the power of community involvement in scientific research. We rely on passionate volunteers to contribute valuable data on local frog populations, directly contributing to a broader understanding of amphibian health and distribution. Volunteers have the opportunity to receive comprehensive training to accurately identify different frog and toad calls and learn standardized data collection protocols. For those seeking a deeper commitment, certification is available upon successful completion of assessments in these areas.
A significant aspect of our work is supporting the Spring Peeper Program, a targeted initiative aimed at identifying and safeguarding urban frog populations within our region. This program highlights the importance of even small green spaces in supporting local biodiversity.

Gateway FrogWatch is a collaborative effort, proudly partnering with leading conservation and educational organizations in the region. These partners include the Saint Louis Zoo, Shaw Nature Reserve, Audubon Center at Riverlands, The Great Rivers Research & Education Center, St. Charles County Parks, and Forest Park Forever.
