Welcome to the official website of DarkSky Missouri, established in October 2018 as a dedicated chapter of DarkSky International. We are an active organization committed to addressing light pollution issues throughout Missouri. Recognizing the diverse geography of our state, DarkSky Missouri utilizes operating “zones” to ensure our initiatives and outreach effectively represent all regions, not just a single urban center. This zonal approach informs our recruitment of board members and volunteers, as well as the strategic deployment of resources like sky quality meters to accurately measure sky brightness across Missouri.

Our mission is multifaceted: to raise public awareness about the detrimental effects of light pollution in Missouri, to advocate for and promote the adoption of quality outdoor lighting practices, to protect our precious natural environment and the beauty of our night sky, and to educate communities on how reducing light pollution can lead to significant energy cost savings.
